Environmental Compliance Statement

Fisse Design - 2016

Fisse Design looks holistically at the lifecycle of our resources and products and is constantly looking at ways to reduce our products environmental footprint. The overall approach of Fisse Design management and staff is to make a positive contribution to the community and minimise our environmental impacts.

Fisse Design's view in regard to environmental management focuses on three pillars:

  • Compliance
  • Environmental risk minimisation
  • Best practice

Compliance

Like most companies, Fisse Design would rather resolve issues through consultation and cooperation than through additional regulation. Our emphasis on compliance is therefore on prevention, with a key element involving the establishment of good relationships with the communities in which we operate.

Fisse Design has a solid framework for environmental management and compliance that provides a basis for continual improvement and innovation.

Risk Minimisation

Our second key focus area is around risk minimisation, specifically in the areas of ground water and soil contamination within our town office location. Our choice of biodegradable detergent and cleaning products, recycled and natural building materials and plant based paints

Best Practice Resource Use

The third pillar of environmental management is centred on resource use with specific references to energy, waste and water. Most of our resource consumption occurs at our Narooma Fisse Design office and conference facility. We are able to reduce our use of resources through the daily monitoring of equipment, leading to timely identification of issues and quick repair or modifications.

Our response to climate change is best demonstrated under this third pillar. We understand that climate change is an issue of concern and importance to stakeholders and has a particularly high profile. We are able to mitigate against climate change impacts through our identification and management of best practice resource use including reducing water consumption, waste and energy.

Water

The majority of the water used is sourced from municipal or shire water suppliers.

As part of our Strata office complex we are utilising communal sanitary facilities with dual flush systems as well as collecting water in two rainwater tanks to use in such facilities and gardens.

Energy Consumption

The main areas of focus are lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Electricity and water consumption at Fisse Design offices is kept low due to implementation of energy and water saving systems.

We have changed our energy provider to the highest rated ‘Green' energy retailer in our region. The installation of energy efficient insulation, LED lighting, heating and cooling appliances in both the offices and the conference room are playing a vital part in our energy reduction efforts.

Greenhouse Gas Emission

Electricity used at the Fisse Design offices represents the main energy source, and the largest contributors to our greenhouse gas emissions. The insertion of energy efficient power boards, electricity timers combined with a ‘go home, lights out' policy and five star energy rating appliances are further initiatives Fisse Design management and staff have adopted.

The use of up-cycled office furniture and natural building materials like timber representing the recognition Fisse Design gives Greenhouse Gas Emissions and their impact on climate change.

Waste and Recycling

The majority of the company's waste is generated at our office and conference facility. The two major waste streams are general waste and prescribed waste. We recycle where possible with recyclable materials including cardboard, paper, printer cartridges, IT hardware, plastics and aluminium cans and bottles.

By using the following programs, you will help recovery of valuable resources through the recycling process and prevent waste to landfill.

Bring IT Back – Recycle old IT equipment with Office Works.

The Bring IT Back program aims to keep old computers and computer accessories out of landfill. I.T. waste collected through this program is sent to recyclers where up to 98% of the material in the devices is recovered and recycled. Customers can bring in up to 5 items for recycling, including desktops, laptops, computer mice, monitors, printers, scanners, multifunction printers, keyboards, computer power supplies, printed circuit boards, motherboards, network cards, disks and CD drives.

Cartridges 4 Planet Ark – Return empty ink & toner cartridges to a Australia Post store.

Recycling station boxes are located in all our stores so you can safely recycle your used ink and toner cartridges. Recycling ink and toner cartridges diverts waste from landfill, saves water and energy, and reduces greenhouse gases.

Mobile Muster – at Australia Post store.

The Mobile Muster program – the Australian mobile phone industry's official product stewardship program. Working together with Mobile Muster, this free recycling service aims to keep old mobile phones, batteries and accessories out of landfill, and recycle them to the highest environmental standards.
